SIMULATED AUDIO REALITY LAB is owned by Rich Hemming. The lab is an infrastructural provider of audio solutions in the Metaverse that focuses on R&D. He is an experienced creative sound practitioner and researcher in immersive audio technologies.

We work extensively with our network of creative practitioners in the South West of England, embracing both academic institutional relationships and freelance creative practitioners. The diverse projects delivered have resulted in the use of a rich network of artists, programmers, engineers, UX designers, composers and animators that can be called upon for any future project needs. The ethos of S_A_R_Lab is innovation, collaboration and cultivation.

After completing a BA in Creative Sound and Music & MA in Creative Music Practice at USW, Rich has been working on diverse freelance technical audio projects over the last decade. He is currently completing his PhD in Electronic Engineering at Royal Holloway University of London.

His current research focuses on obtaining real-time semantic scene data from ARkit and LiDAR sensors to drive spatial, interactive and procedural audio characteristics in AR to assist blind and visually impaired communities to understand real-world objects through a wearable device.

He was a lecturer in a BA in Music Production and Sound Engineering (MPSE), BA in Electronic Music Production (EMP) and developed and lead the Sound for Games and Apps Integrated Masters at dBS Music Bristol delivered in partnership with Plymouth University. He currently delivers audio workshops on the MA Immersive Storytelling course at RHUL and recently wrote the current BA in Game Audio at Bath Spa University.

Working in game audio for many years resulted in combining traditional linear music production and sound design with the technical implementation of non-linear 3D environments. Game audio integration requires specialist knowledge of mixing linear recorded material into a live triggering context in conjunction with animation and data-driven non-linear interaction.

Rich has an understanding of parametrically driven sound design through real-time data input that is unparalleled in the industry and requires an in-depth knowledge of multiple software.
